Bolga Tennis Club resisted stiff opposition from defending champions Wa Tennis Club and Tamale Tennis Club to lift this year’s Lesken triangular Tennis Tournament.
The 12th edition witnessed 17 matches with the host winning 9 while Wa tennis club and Tamale Tennis also winning 8 and 7 games respectively.
This year’s edition was graced by the Upper East Regional Minister Hon. Rockson Bukari.
In an interview with the Regional minister he said, “I am very grateful to the organizers and tennis players for using the game to promote peace in the region and encourage all to use the tournament to network and create business opportunities that will inure to the development of the sub region”.
“The region has produced lots of talents for Ghana and should not be neglected by the Ghana Tennis federation when tennis clinics and tournaments are organized” the Regional minister emphasized.
Chairman of Bolga Tennis Club, Mr Martin Amana said, “I am elated to have been able to host a successful tournament and winning convincingly”.
In his speech, the president of Ghana tennis federation, Isaac Aboagye Duah said he was impressed with the level of tennis and the organization. He encourage them to include the junior players when Tamale hosts the 2018 edition. GTF will in 2018 extend the tennis in schools to the three northern regions and would need the assistance of the various clubs to make it a success.
Deserving personalities were given citation for various activities. Hon. Rockson Bukari was honoured for his contribution to the development of tennis in the region from his days as a District Chief Executive till now, Mr McAnthony Azupwah for leadership, Madam Mariam Iddrisu for service, and Charles Abugbila for dedication and his humility.
Mr Kenneth Elvis Anewenah, the MD of MYTURN limited and LESKEN (main sponsor) was honoured for his financial contribution to the development of tennis.
Other patrons who graced the occasion were Mrs Augustina Anafo and Mr Amoak Afoko.
